Covid-19

Parents/Guardians,

School is closed today, Sept. 11, 2020, in response to a student testing positive for Covid-19. Backlogs at the state lab caused a delay in reporting to the Wayne County Health Department which meant contact tracing had to be done in cooperation with both entities late yesterday evening. School was cancelled in order to ensure that all contacts could be notified and prevent any contacts from coming to school. It is our intent to resume in person classes on Monday. Having said that this situation is very fluid and there is no forewarning of when we may be presented with this situation again.

Remember the district cannot share detailed information regarding any case as it would be a violation of individual medical privacy. If your child had been affected you will be receiving a phone call from the Wayne County Health Center.

Concerning the virtual program Accelerated Education:

This program will be used through the duration of the pandemic situation in an effort to provide learning during any closures. It is far from perfect and a very poor substitute for in person learning. Instructional staff have been working to prepare to deliver instruction via this method prior to school starting. Frankly we needed more time to prepare the students. Log-in information will be shared via this page shortly. Many students know how to log-in as teachers have been preparing students for this eventuality.

Remember the entire staff of the Greenville R-II School District is here to see every child succeed. We realize this a new and evolving situation and are going to do everything in our power to deliver educational services whether we are able to serve students with traditional in-person learning or through on-line services. We recently conducted a technology/internet survey and have a list compiled of those students who have no internet connection, and in the event of an extended shut down we will be mailing hard copies to anyone in need.

The district FaceBook page is for informational purposes. No one will respond to individual comments. Negativity helps no one in any new/stressful situation. If you have specific questions please feel free to call your child’s building office to resolve individual issues. We are aware of limited connectivity in the community. I am the superintendent and lifelong resident of the area (The only internet connection in my home is a smart phone.)

Again I ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult situation. The plan is to keep closures to a minimum, but also understand they may be necessary as we work through this situation. Appropriate information will be shared as soon as it can be prepared by appropriate staff members.

Sincerely,

Rick Clubb
Superintendent Greenville R-2
